About The Kennel Club
They say that a dog is a man’s best friend – and with a quarter of all UK pet owners owning a canine friend, it certainly seems to be true. Indeed, dogs are the UK’s most popular pet, beating their feline counterparts by 7%.
With dogs being such a popular pet choice, and with pets playing such a valuable role in many people’s lives, it’s vital that the UK has a dedicated organisation for looking after dogs.
That’s where The Kennel Club come in. With over 200 staff, two offices in London and Aylesbury, and dedicated customers up and down the country, The Kennel Club is the largest organisation in the UK devoted to dog health, welfare, and training.
The Kennel Club also runs Petlog, the UK’s largest lost and found database for microchipped pets, ensuring that pet owners across the UK are never without their faithful companion for long.
Like most businesses across the world, The Kennel Club were striving to modernise and increase efficiency, and when Alex Meek joined the organisation as Head of IT, he became committed to developing a solid IT strategy.
Part of this new IT strategy involved examining all licensing agreements, in order to ensure that The Kennel Club was compliant in all areas. As Head of IT, Alex quickly realised that The Kennel Club was fast approaching the end of a three year Microsoft licensing agreement, which naturally posed a significant compliance risk. Keen to ensure that The Kennel Club maintained its high standard of service and positive reputation, Alex began exploring renewal options.
Since a like-for-like renewal of the Microsoft licenses was quotes at a cost of £90,000, Alex decided that it was appropriate to bring experts on board to look for cost-saving opportunities, and it was agreed that it was also time for the organisation to review all of its existing licenses in order to ensure compliance across the board, and to save money where possible.
Due to Trustmarque’s (Part of Capita plc.) extensive experience in licensing, The Kennel Club decided to opt for our Commercial Benchmarking Service. This service modelled all of the different combinations of licensing mechanisms available to the organisations, allowing The Kennel Club to choose a bespoke and cost effecting licensing solution that met its unique needs.
Reviewing licensing can be notoriously complex and time consuming, but with Trustmarque’s help, The Kennel Club were able to find an appropriate solution quickly and easily, allowing them to concentrate on their work caring for the UK’s most beloved pets.
Having worked with Trustmarque in his previous organisation, Alex Meek was already familiar with Trustmarque, and with our highly-reputable Software Asset Management (SAM) consultants. This meant that Alex was confident in Trustmarque’s ability to navigate the specific software licenses used by The Kennel Club, and arrive at a solution that was not only cost-effective, but which also met The Kennel Club’s specific needs.
Indeed, Alex Meek was particular impressed with our dedication to The Kennel Club’s unique goals, stating that:
“The project was a great success from our point of view. Trustmarque put our interests first, and were totally focussed on getting us the right result, even if it meant less revenue for them.”
Ultimately, with the help of Trustmarque, The Kennel Club were able to save a massive £70,000 on licensing renewals. This represented a significant cost saving to the business, and allowed The Kennel Club to continue offering an excellent service to its loyal companions.
More specifically, Trustmarque’s solutions provided a number of other significant benefits. These included:
- Providing a single, easy to manage agreement for The Kennel Club’s use of the Azure cloud infrastructure
- Ensuring that Microsoft cloud technologies, such as hosted email, could be utilised immediately – allowing business to continue as usual
- Ensuring that the investment in perpetual licensing would not be discarded by retaining the rights to use these licenses.
As such, The Kennel’s Club licensing is now not only cost-effective and compliant, but it’s also simple and easy to navigate.
