We are excited to confirm that legendary mountaineer, presenter and author, Sir Chris Bonington will be joining us as lead Guest Speaker at XPO North.
In keeping with the theme of exploration and discovery, Sir Chris will lead our expedition into the ever-changing world of Digital Transformation as he takes centre stage at the Manchester Museum of Industry and Science on 20 November.

About Sir Chris Bonington
A natural leader and explorer, embracing the unknown
Sir Chris Bonington is one of the most successful expedition leaders in the history of mountaineering. He started climbing in 1951, aged just 16. It has been his passion ever since, which has helped place him at the forefront of the mountaineering movement.
He was the first Brit to ascent the North Wall of the Eiger in the Swiss Alps. He led the expedition that made the first ascent of The South Face of Annapurna, the biggest and most difficult climb in the Himalaya at the time. He went on to lead the expedition making the first ascent of the South West Face of Everest in 1975 and then reached the summit of Everest himself in 1985 with a Norwegian expedition. He is still active in the mountains, climbing with the same passion and enthusiasm and inspiring others.

Chris is keen to share his experiences of the natural world and has has written 17 books, fronted numerous television programmes and has lectured to public and corporate audiences on the global stage. He received a knighthood in 1996 for services to mountaineering, was president of the Council for National Parks for 8 years and is currently Non-Executive Chairman of Berghaus. Despite being in his 80’s, he is still at the peak of his success.
What will Sir Chris bring to XPO North?
Leadership, teamwork and agility in the face of uncharted territory
Sir Chris is a true example of leadership and teamwork in the face of immense challenges. In many ways mountaineering is a lot like scaling up new business or business transition; it is about a steady, confident climb to reach the peak as one team. It is not an indulgent race to the top. Chris will use his dramatic stories to underline the lessons to be learnt to help build a long-term strategy – not quick survival tactics – to succeed and prosper.
Expect Sir Chris to draw vivid parallels between the mountaineering and expedition process and your business change which he will bring to life through storytelling, Q&A and hopefully some jaw-dropping photography.
He’ll be covering topics like dealing with obstacles, crisis management, reaching peak performance, managing change, and teamwork and collaboration in the face of adversity. And of course, he’ll share what it feels like to stand atop the world’s highest mountain.
